2017 National Consensus Conference update

Date Posted: 14-Jun-2017

Enhancing Quality & Safety: Spiritual Care in Health
In June over 60 participants gathered from across Australia to talk about spiritual care in health and to work towards a national strategy. Representing universities, health practitioners/managers, Government health departments, faith representatives, spiritual care practitioners, national organisations and peak bodies, participants created a stimulating and energised conversation expertly facilitated by Dr Norman Swan. The results of an Australia-wide survey were presented and presentations were heard from many respected experts including Dr Stephen Duckett, Grattan Institute, Dr Victoria Atkinson, St Vincent's Health Australia and Dr Simon Longstaff, The Ethics Centre. This was a landmark Australian event seeking to influence hospitals to be places of healing and compassion for patients and staff. Outcomes from the conference have been collated and you can download the report here which includes the Principles for Design and Delivery of Spiritual Care Services that emerged from the conference and ten revised Policy Statements tested through the national survey and the consensus conference.
