Sustaining Our Practice - Spiritual Health for Staff Wellbeing Pilot at Footscray Hospital

Date Posted: 15-Nov-2017

“Sustaining Our Practice” is a 2-hour professional development program on spiritual health which addresses the wellbeing needs of healthcare professionals in hospitals, and has been designed by Spiritual Health Victoria (SHV) by our Education Officer Shinen Wong.

In August, SHV piloted this program at Footscray Hospital, Western Health thanks to the kind efforts of Khanh Do, Mary Anastasiou and their Pastoral Care team and directorial support at Western Health. We had approximately 25 attendees, including doctors, nurses, and Allied Health professionals. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants reflecting that they especially appreciated learning about how spiritual health is not limited to religious experience/expression, that their own wellbeing has an impact not only on patient experience but also on the broader culture of healthcare. We had nourishing conversations about how to further integrate these reflections and insights into practical practice, e.g. in multi-disciplinary team management, ongoing professional development opportunities for hospital staff, and more.
